Do Yer Bit!

May is a celebration of trail love, as Take Care of Your Trails returns. This year, we’re making it easier for folks to connect with local associations through a new interactive map, alongside sharing 'Do Yer Bit'—a Fresh Cuts film, inspired by insights from the UK Trail Project, celebrating the positive impact riders can have when we all play our part.

May marks a month-long celebration of trail love. Take Care of Your Trails began in Scotland in 2016 and has grown from its Scottish roots into a Europe-wide campaign led by IMBA Europe.

This year, we’re making it easier than ever for riders, and those who are simply dig-curious, to connect with their local trail associations, by bringing them together on our interactive map.

We’re also excited to share a new short film by Sean Green, “Do Yer Bit”, created as part of last year’s Fresh Cuts programme. The film highlights one of the key learnings from the UK Trails Project, showing how mountain biking can exist positively alongside nature and local communities.

Following extensive consultation with mountain bikers and land managers across the UK, the UK Trails Project identified many examples of where mountain biking exists in harmony with nature and other users of shared landscapes.

This film aims to highlight and encourage these positive behaviours and promoting a culture of respect, responsibility, and stewardship on the trails.

Featuring slick riding, a strong connection to the natural environment, and a standout contribution from members of the Tayside Trail Association, “Do Yer Bit” is both a celebration of mountain biking and a call to action.

Ride responsibly. Respect others. Protect the places we love.

'Do Yer Bit' is a celebration of the good that riders can bring, and a simple reminder that when we all play our part, we help protect and strengthen the places we ride.

Dave Evans - UK Trails Project Manager

The UK Trails Project found Land Managers and Riders alike valued trail associations' work to sustain excellent trails as part of their natural environment. Take Care of Your Trails raises awareness of these volunteers' hard work, and our new interactive map can help you get involved with your local group and join a local dig day!

Dave continues to work behind the scenes to create UK-wide frameworks which will allow clubs and trail associations easier collaboration with their local land managers. This work will change trail management across the country for the benefit of current riders and secure trails for future generations.

This work will debut later in the year.

The UK Trails Project is managed by Developing Mountain Biking in Scotland (Scottish Cycling) and is supported by a steering group including British Cycling, Cycling Ireland, Beicio Cymru (Welsh Cycling), Forestry and Land Scotland, Forestry England, Natural Resources Wales, Outscape Northern Ireland, along with the project funders, SRAM.
