Our Work
Trails
To develop and sustain Scotland as a premier riding destination we help ensure that the right trails are in the right place, and built and managed by the right people.
We’ve got a lot happening at DMBinS right now — all focused on shaping the next decade of mountain biking in Scotland. From new national guidance on trail management, to opportunities for riders, businesses, and volunteers to get involved. Here’s what’s new!
We’ve launched our brand new Trail Management Guidance for Mountain Bikers — developed with support from the UK Trails Project and reviewed by Forestry and Land Scotland.
This guide gives practical, easy-to-follow advice for trail associations, community groups, and land managers on how to work together to create and maintain sustainable trails with no unnecessary hazards. It covers everything from permits and licences to Sustainable Trails Plans and Memoranda of Understanding, helping you choose the right management model for your local trails.
Our aim?
“The right trails, in the right place, managed by the right people, for the long term.”
You can download the full guidance now.
We’re recruiting! If you’ve got skills in outdoor recreation, community development, tourism, health, fundraising, or sustainability — and a passion for mountain biking — this is your chance to make a difference.
Our committee helps guide the work of DMBinS and Scottish Cycling, shaping the strategic direction of mountain biking in Scotland.

From sustainable trail partnerships and business growth to strategic planning and volunteering, these projects show the strength of Scotland’s mountain bike community.
Together, we’re working towards making Scotland the best place in the world to ride a mountain bike.
