First Tracks is a unique 8-week programme focussed on supporting entrepreneurs with the development of services in the Bicycle, Tourism and Outdoor Recreation Industries. The core programme delivery is co-hosted between South Of Scotland Enterprise (SOSE) and Edinburgh Napier University (ENU).
You may just have had a stunning idea so far and need help to realise it, or you may already run a business that wants to diversifying with a new offer. First tracks is about giving you the skills and confidence to take that next step.
What makes First Tracks unique from other Incubator or Accelerator programmes is that it delivers a programme of core business support from fantastic business coach professionals but also offers a unique selection of sessions that deliver a wealth of cycling and other relevant industry expertise that is not available elsewhere.

First Tracks was an invaluable resource for us and we really benefited from both the in person sessions and online gatherings with some amazing experts. First Tracks is for Entrepreneurs that are starting out on their business journey. Applicants are welcome from both the South of Scotland and from the rest of the UK but must be able to travel to Glentress for some sessions.

We are accepting applications from 30th October to 12th December 2025 at midnight.
The programme runs for 8 weeks from 19th January 2026 and there will be compulsory 1-2-1 sessions every second week with a business coach (expected to be online)
A mix of online and in-person sessions and talks that will be adapted to the cohort. These will include;
There is no catch, it is free to join and funded by a combination of the partners involved.
While First Tracks is technically based in the South of Scotland it is open to anyone located in the UK who feels they would benefit from the programme and are prepared to travel here for some sessions. In the event of oversubscription, the preference will be for those located in Scotland.
The core programme delivery is co-hosted between SOSE and Edinburgh Napier University;
For Dumfries and Galloway and the Scottish Borders or companies actively looking to set up or relocate in these areas then your 1-2-1 sessions will be delivered by a experienced business coach from SOSE.
Anyone in the rest of the UK can still apply, and their 1-2-1 support will be delivered from the team at Edinburgh Napier’s Bright Red Triangle entrepreneur and business specialists.
All participant are expected to travel to Glentress in the Scottish Borders for some of the programme.
This Joint approach between the delivery partners we hope will deliver a strong cohort of applicants and breadth of experience from across the country. This will ensure you get as much as possible from fellow participants and the specialist expertise on offer. You will receive the same seamless experience and ensures access to the best after programme support.
Timeline
Following the successful run of the initial programme in 2025, Developing Mountain Biking in Scotland (DMBinS), South of Scotland Enterprise and Edinburgh Napier University, are excited to announce the next edition of “First Tracks,” the UK’s first dedicated Adventure Tourism Launchpad Programme. Designed to support innovators launch new services in the Adventure Tourism sector, this unique 8-week programme starting on 19th January 2026 combines expert business coaching on a weekly basis with key skill sessions and industry-specific insights. This will help participants bring their ideas to life and is part of the pipeline of activities ahead of the new MTB Innovation Centre opening in 2027.
First Tracks will provide a creative, fun and supportive environment for budding and existing entrepreneurs. The programme features a mix of one-to-one business advice and interactive group sessions, ensuring that each participant receives tailored support and the opportunity to learn from peers and experienced mentors too. The programme is open to all those with that big idea they want to progress. Anyone from pre- start-ups to existing businesses is eligible. The in-person sessions are based in the South of Scotland but the Partnership behind the programme welcomes anyone looking to develop new services to apply from across the UK.
What sets First Tracks apart from other programmes is its unparalleled access to expertise within the tourism, outdoors, and particularly cycling industries. Participants will engage with seasoned professionals and mentors who understand the challenges and opportunities unique to these sectors, providing invaluable insights and connections. Entrepreneurs will leave with the solid foundations for business growth, and the confidence and skills to make robust business decisions.
