At this time of year even if you are going out and plan to be back well before nightfall, please always be prepared and take lights and extra battery with you. You never know when something could go wrong with your ride. A mechanical can mean a long walk home and that's pretty nasty if you've no lights. Or if you or one of your group has an accident and have to wait for help, again, pretty nasty with no lights.
As the days are shorter, and the nights are most definitely drawing in, its a great time to check your winter set up. Tyres, kit and lights.
Night riding is awesome fun, when you are prepared with the right lights and equipment. Features come at you quicker, you feel like you are riding at warp speed and the stunning night landscapes can clear the head after a busy day. Throw in the odd wildlife encounter and night riding can be pretty magical.
The Mountain Bike Night Leader Award enables existing British Cycling qualified mountain bike leaders to lead beyond the hours of daylight extending the opportunities for your groups to ride through twilight and darkness. Night Leaders are able to offer amazing mountain bike experiences for their groups during evening and night rides throughout the year.
