To celebrate the UCI Mountain Bike World Series visiting the area, The Lochaber Wheeled Sports Society, the community group behind Fort William Bike Park, hosted an fun social evening at the Bike Park on Friday the 3rd May. The local community and event visitors were invited come together to ride the facilities at the bike park and join in the good vibes.
Over 500 people came along on the night, with fantastic weather keeping the fun going throughout the evening. Scottish professional BMX rider, Kriss Kyle, joined the event as special guest, wowing the crowd with his incredible tricks, and helping to inspire locals of all ages who regularly ride the bike park.
We were delighted to be part of the event. Such a special evening with young people of all ages taking turns on the pumptrack and BMX/Skate bowl. Such an inclusive vibe in a stunning setting, it really is quite a special place and community.
Gregor Muir, chair of the Lochaber Wheeled Sports Society , was delighted with the event:
What an evening. Blue sky, good tunes good food and great fun had by all!
We had some fantastic riding from all the riders and especially a few top riders who enjoyed the pump track and the BMX bowl. The highlight of the evening was watching Kriss Kyle ride, displaying some incredible tricks.
Thank you to everyone who helped out – event volunteers, the committed team responsible for the ongoing running of the Bike Park, Off Beat Bikes and Nevis Cycles for providing the prizes, Nevis Medics and An cafe Mara who did a smashing job on the catering. Also Developing Mountain Biking in Scotland and Whoop UCI Mountain Bike Series for helping organise and fund the event.
Our next event will be a pumptrackathon – a 10 hours of sponsored riding at the Bike Park! This a fundraiser to help cover the ongoing running costs of the Bike Park – things like insurance and equipment to help us run more events. Watch out on social media for more information.
