Over the next few years the Scottish Borders will host international events and deliver three multi-million-pound mountain bike capital projects – The Borderlands MTB Project, a refresh of the 7Stanes and the Glentress Masterplan. This role will help ensure the Borders maximises the development and business opportunities that mountain biking brings.
Scottish Cycling, through its department Developing Mountain Biking in Scotland (DMBinS), is looking to appoint a ‘Scottish Borders MTB Regional Development Co-ordinator’ to deliver a partnership project to develop mountain biking as a sport and industry across the Scottish Borders.
Scottish Cycling is the internationally recognised governing body for cycle sport in Scotland. It is an integral part of British Cycling. Together the organisations cover all six cycling disciplines including BMX, cycle speedway, cyclo-cross, mountain biking, road, and track.
DMBinS is a department within Scottish Cycling which is responsible for overseeing the national strategy mountain biking in Scotland.
The Scottish Borders is one of the leading mountain biking destinations in the UK. By supporting the continued growth and development of mountain biking we will help deliver greater impacts through developing the skills agenda, support innovation in small businesses and invest in local communities to sustainably develop the economic contribution that mountain biking makes across the Borders.
In the next 3 years the Scottish Borders will host international events and deliver three multi-million-pound mountain bike capital projects – The Borderlands MTB Project, a refresh of the 7Stanes and the Glentress Masterplan. This role will help ensure the Scottish Borders maximises the skills development and business opportunities that mountain biking brings. It will also liaise closely with another existing post to ensure that mountain bike grows at a community level within the Tweed Valley to capitalise fully on these upcoming opportunities.
The role will be based in the Scottish Borders and the post-holder will have access to the office at Peel Tower, Glentress and will require a level of home working alongside a flexible approach which will be required to manage the demands of the job.
Working both independently and as part of our dynamic team, your experience, qualifications and knowledge across a range of areas will contribute to driving forward DMBinS and Scottish Cycling’s aim to excel in service delivery.
Applicants should be highly organised, motivated, and be able to form strong relationships with organisations as diverse as Scottish Borders Council, Tweed Valley Trails Associations, Edinburgh Napier University and South of Scotland Enterprise.
The post is for a fixed-term contract until February 2025 (further funding will be actively sought to continue the role).
This project is funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
The annual salary will be £32,000-£34,000 dependent on experience.
