Tweed Valley Fringe Events for the Cycling World Championships
Glentress in the Tweed Valley will host the MTB XC events for the World Champs. With around 20k visitors expected over the course of the week, communities and businesses have the opportunity to provide a world-class welcome and enhance the experience for visitors by offering a programme of 'fringe' events to coincide with this major international event.
The biggest cycling event is coming to Scotland in August 2023. The world’s greatest riders will get together in Glasgow and across Scotland to compete at the highest level, making history and showcasing Scotland to a global audience. Glentress in the Tweed Valley will host a series of mountain bike competitions for the world championships over the period 6th to 13th August.
With around 20,000 visitors expected over the course of the week, communities and businesses throughout the Tweed Valley have the opportunity to provide a world-class welcome and enhance the experience for spectators by offering a programme of 'fringe' events to coincide with this major international event.
We have recently been working with Go Tweed Valley and local businesses to encourage the creation of a Fringe programme of events. Complimenting the events taking place at Glentress will not only add local colour and interest for the thousands of spectators, volunteers, media and other visitors that will attend but also ensure that ALL businesses have the chance to be part of and benefit from this major international event.
A lot of great ideas were generated from (and since) two local business workshops, held recently in Peebles and Innerleithen. To capture all these ideas in one place, and assist Scottish Borders Council as they bring on board an event organiser to follow up and coordinate the Fringe programme, we urge all who are interested in getting involved to complete this online form now.
The intention is to co-ordinate a Fringe programme of the confirmed events and activities taking place to distribute to spectators and visitors in advance via online content and hopefully as a printed version when they arrive in the Tweed Valley.
If you would like to chat over possible Fringe activities or event ideas for your business, please get in touch with either ourselves or the good folks at Go Tweed Valley .
We have lots of ideas and are keen to support where we can.
