We are looking for a new staff member to join our team to fulfill the North East Adventure Tourism (NEAT) Project Co-ordinator role.

The NEAT Project Co-ordinator post holder will support the delivery of the NEAT project across all areas of activity with a specific focus on enhancing the trail network playing an integral part in the ambition to grow Aberdeenshire’s adventure tourism industry.

Working closely with the staff team at NEAT, DMBinS, and ONE alongside the volunteer committee of Aberdeenshire Trails Association (ATA) this is an exciting opportunity to ensure co-ordination of activity and work with numerous partner agencies, groups, and businesses to ensure future opportunities are realised.

This role is full-time until the end of June 2025 funded by Opportunity North East.


NEAT Project Co-ordinator

Contract Type: Fixed term contract till end of June 2025 (further funding will be sought to continue the role) This project is currently funded by Opportunity North East.

Salary: £30-35k per annum dependant on experience

Reporting To: North East Adventure Tourism (NEAT) Project Manager, Head of Developing Mountain Biking in Scotland (DMBinS) and the committee of Aberdeenshire Trail Association (ATA)

Line Manager: North East Adventure Tourism (NEAT) Project Manager

Location: Based in Aberdeenshire – expected to work outdoors, from home and at various NEAT partner agency premises.

Hours Of Work: 37.5 hours per week

Introduction

Scottish Cycling seek to appoint a NEAT Project Co-ordinator as part of the Developing Mountain Biking in Scotland team to support delivery of the North East Adventure Tourism Project.

The North East Adventure Tourism (NEAT) Project aims to capitalise on North East Scotland’s natural assets and make the region a world-class destination for adventure sports tourism. The project is lead and funded by Opportunity North East, with support from Developing Mountain Biking in Scotland, Scottish Enterprise, Aberdeenshire Council and VisitAberdeenshire.

The NEAT Project Co-ordinator will support the delivery of the project across all areas of activity with a specific focus on enhancing the trail network by supporting and growing the delivery capacity of Aberdeenshire Trail Association.

Scottish Cycling is the national governing body for cycling in Scotland and works in conjunction with British and Welsh Cycling, together we are the governing bodies of the sport of cycling across the UK.

Developing Mountain Biking in Scotland (DMBinS), is responsible for overseeing the National Mountain Bike Strategy for Scotland.

Aberdeenshire Trail Association (ATA) is a community volunteer and trail advocacy group set up by mountain biking enthusiasts in 2018 to help sustain and manage the natural trail network across the region.

The post holder will play an integral part in the NEAT project’s ambition to grow Aberdeenshire’s adventure tourism industry working closely with the staff team at NEAT, DMBinS and ONE alongside the volunteer committee of ATA to ensure coordination of activity and work with numerous partner agencies, groups and businesses to ensure future opportunities are realised.

The position and project are funded by Opportunity North East with additional in-kind support and industry expertise from Developing Mountain Biking in Scotland, Scottish Cycling, Scottish Enterprise, Aberdeenshire Council and VisitAberdeenshire.

This role is full time until end of June 2025 although further funding will be sought to continue the role beyond this point.

The post will be based in Aberdeenshire and the successful candidate will be required to work flexibly with the possibility for unsociable hours and frequent travel. When office based the candidate will have access to the NEAT partner agency facilities, but a flexible approach will be required to manage the demands of the job including working from home, at various activity sites and spending a significant amount of time outdoors in all weather conditions.

Applicants should be highly organised, motivated, and be able to form strong relationships with organisations as diverse as Opportunity North East, Scottish Enterprise, Aberdeenshire Council, VisitAberdeenshire, Aberdeenshire Trails Associations, Forestry & Land Scotland, North East Scotland College and Cairngorms National Park Authority.

Working both independently and as part of our dynamic team, your experience, qualifications and knowledge of the sector and the region will contribute to developing a world class trails network and adventure tourism industry in North East Scotland.
