Scottish Mountain Bike Conference 2024 Programme - Day 2
Day 2, Friday 8th November, of the Scottish MTB Conference 2024 has an exciting programme of inspiring speakers and workshops on the themes of 'Trails, Health & Inclusion, & Sport Development'. There will also be plenty of opportunities to make those important connections, network and visit event partner exhibitions.
The Scottish Mountain Bike Conference will be held over three days (Thursday 7th, Friday 8th & Saturday 9th November 2024) with inspiring global and local speakers.
The greatly anticipated Scottish Mountain Bike Awards 2024 will be held on Friday evening.

Day 2 - Trails, Health & Inclusion, and Sport Development
The second day of the conference, delegates will hear from a variety of speakers with presentations and updates on local and Scottish health and inclusion programmes, updates on support for the sport to develop into the future and participative workshops.
An organised night-ride will set delegates up for a night of celebration at the Scottish Mountain Bike Awards 2024.
Global Speakers
IMBA Europe featuring Thomas Larsen Schmidt - President, Mark Torsius – General Manager, and Manon Carpenter – Board Member lead on ‘European Women's Mountain Bike Network’
An exciting presentation on how, as an umbrella body for national member organisations, IMBA Europe are helping to create sustainable trails and diversify participation in mountain biking.
Delegates will hear about the background to IMBA Europe, the work they do to help support advocates and their member organisations, and a new initiative to support the continued growth of women participating in mountain biking across Europe.
Local Speakers
Manus Twomey and Ben Creed, British Cycling
Manus is the National Facilities Manager at British Cycling. His presentation will detail the success and lessons of the Places to Ride programme, which invested £15m in over 150 facilities in England, including 23 new mountain bike trails. Manus will be joined by speakers from sportscotland, who will present on the successes of the Cycling Facilities Fund.
Ben is the Education Development Lead ‑ Officials and Off‑Road Leadership at British Cycling. His presentation will update delegates on the changes and the proposals for further changes in mountain bike leadership at British Cycling.
Crawford Carrick Anderson, Local/Scottish/Global Mountain Bike Legend
A journey in mountain biking. An inspired story from a world cup/championships rider to working with the local community club Peebles Cycling Club. How the riding and community in Tweed Valley has helped him and his children ride and compete at world level.
An inspiring presentation to finish the indoor day sessions of the conference.
Neil Russell, Adaptive Riders Collective, Fiona Cockburn, Scottish Cycling Foundation/Edrington Group, and Christine Fox, Developing Mountain Biking in Scotland
Neil, recently awarded Scotland's Cycling Champion of the Year 2024, of Adaptive Riders Collective alongside Fiona, a trustee of the Scottish Cycling Foundation, and Dr Chriistine Fox, MTB Health Programmes & MTB Leadership Manager with DMBinS will launch an exciting and innovative new programme to help support more disabled riders enjoy the thrill of mountain biking.
Nick Rennie, Scottish Cycling
Nick, the CEO of Scottish Cycling, will deliver a presentation on the strategic approach that Scottish Cycling is implementing to help develop a nation of cyclists.
Stu Thomson, Cut Media and David Smith, Screen Scotland
Stu, the founder of Cut Media, and David Smith, Director of Screen at Screen Scotland, will present on the new collaborative Fresh Cuts programme including their personal and organisational motivations to be part of the programme and how they think it can help develop content creators for an era of different viewing habits.
Workshops
The conference will also cover workshops to support further development of trails, adaptive MTB programmes, and a new pilot Nat5 MTB qualification for schools that features riding skills, leadership, bike mechanics, rider safety, and trail building.
Evening Activities
Professional Trail Builders Forum
Following the conference, professional trail builders will gather to discuss the current state of the industry and common issues affecting the industry going forward.
European Women's Mountain Bike Network
Following on from Manon Carpenters earlier presentation, and as the conference draws to a close, there will be the opportunity to meet members of the European Women's Mountain Bike Network Steering Group to find out more about the group and how you can get involved.
Night Ride(s)
The evening will start with organised led night rides from the hotel onto the trails at Glentress.
