Welcoming the World Champs! Innerleithen.
- Location
- The Vale Club, Innerleithen
As the Tweed Valley gears up for hosting key events as part of the 2023 UCI World Cycling Championships in August, businesses of all shapes and sizes are being encouraged to get involved and ensure that riders and visitors alike receive a world-class welcome to the area.
The biggest cycling event the world has ever seen, is coming to Glasgow, and across Scotland from the 3 to the 13 August 2023. The 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships*, is the first ever event of its kind and brings together various disciplines of cycling for one event. Glasgow and the whole of Scotland will be creating sporting history by hosting this multi-discipline cycling event for the first-time, providing a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to showcase Scotland’s cycling and mountain bike assets to a global audience whilst delivering an outstanding event experience for spectators and, where possible, maximising economic opportunities for businesses.
The eyes of the world will fall on Glentress from 6 to 13 August, as the legendary trail centre, and surrounding terrain, will host five of the championship events: the Olympic Mountain Bike Cross-Country; Mountain Bike Cross-Country Marathon; Mountain Bike Cross-Country Short Track; Mountain Bike Cross-Country Relay; and E-Mountain Bike Cross-Country.
The prestige and scale of this event brings huge opportunities for businesses in the Tweed Valley. There will be an official Event Village at Glentress and event organisers are working hard to finalise details of spectator zones, park and ride locations and camping options, with details expected later this month.
We would like to invite anyone with an interest in the event, any business, accommodation provider, restaurateur, café, local shops and organisations to attend a workshop to find out more about how they can get involved, discuss the opportunities that this event will bring with the goal of creating a calendar of off-site events, in Peebles, Innerleithen and Walkerburn. These would be advertised and bookable in advance, creating ‘fan zones’ away from the main venue, encouraging visitors to stay longer, utilise the local facilities and showcase the amazing offer we have here in the Tweed Valley. Creating a world class welcome, will encourage visitors to plan a return visit.
Come alone, join in and share your ideas! Collectively, we can ensure that World Class Welcome!
