Mikayla's Lochaber

Mikayla Parton is lucky enough to call Fort William home and she was delighted to be able to share some images and words to showcase the area in this week of World Cup madness. Fort William and Lochaber have so much to offer as a holiday destination and we hope we can inspire you to visit, stay longer and make your special Lochaber memories.

Mikayla Gondola

I grew up just outside of Fort William and have lived here my whole life, although I didn't start mountain biking until I was around 18 years old.

This didn't stop me from enjoying being in the outdoors. When I was growing up I loved running, skiing, and sailing in Fort William - you can do all of these!

There are so many opportunities around Fort William for outdoor sports, not just mountain biking. I definitely didn’t appreciate the place I lived when I was a kid but watching the young locals riding bikes and making the most of it makes up for that now. I’m still based in Fort William at the moment and has been a great playground to learn to ride bikes and become a downhill racer.

In the surrounding area of Fort William you have Arisaig and Mallaig beaches, long walks in the mountains, and of course not to mention the UK's highest peak, Ben Nevis!

The area attracts all sorts of people from climbers to kayakers, with many historic locations well worth a visit like Castle Tioram. So if you fancy coming to ride the UK’s only mountain gondola and World Cup DH track, stay longer and really make the most of your trip to Fort William and experience all that the area has to offer!
