The Trail Therapy programme uses mountain biking to support folk experiencing periods of mental ill-health and it needs your help! We need 3 more volunteers to join our small team of super-dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers to further enable us to expand our Trail Therapy programme in Dundee!
Trail Therapy is our initiative, piloted in the Tweed Valley in 2018 where we identified that mountain biking could work in a more proactive manner with our National Health Service supporting those experiencing mental ill-health.
First came a successful funding bid from NatureScot and Trek that enabled us to kick start activity in Dundee and Lanarkshire in 2021 and into 2022 and now, more recently we were able to get funding from the Scottish Governments Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund through Perth and Kinross Association of Voluntary Service and Dundees very own Dundee Volunteer Voluntary Action. Exciting times!
If you want to find out more about the Trail Therapy programme then have a read here.
We now need your help. We have funding to support 3 more volunteers into the programme, volunteers based in or around Dundee with a passion for mountain biking and a real desire to support those experiencing mental ill-health.
We know your time is precious and to volunteer time is an amazing thing and so we like to give back as much as we can for those folk ready and willing to help us.
Volunteer in the programme and we will support you to improve your mountain biking skills and knowledge alongside giving you the opportunity to gain qualifications from a Mountain Bike Leadership Award to an Outdoor First Aid qualification, Child Wellbeing in Sport training and/or Mental Health First Aid.
We are looking for 3 more volunteers to support our Trail Therapy programme in Dundee so if you have an openness to learn, a willingness to support others and a desire to become (or progress) as a mountain bike leader we would love you to contact us.
If you are interested in this amazing opportunity to support the change that so many folk need, please Christine Fox a line (contact details below) explaining why you want to join us, your mountain biking experience to date and your general availability to support such a programme over the coming months.
Massive thanks as always to our funders, Scottish Government Community Mental Health and Wellbeing Funds as distributed by Dundee Volunteer Voluntary Action and Perth and Kinross Association of Voluntary Service Ltd, Trek, NatureScot, and Scottish Cycling. We couldn't do it without you!
As a company, Trek are hugely supportive of the Scottish mountain bike scene and we would like to share some of the areas that they are getting involved and really making a difference.
