Forestry and Land Scotland is advising visitors to Glentress that from 17 April 2023, the café and bike shop will close for up to two months while the boardwalk is replaced.

Installing the replacement surface is the latest phase of FLS’ £8 million investment in the Masterplan development programme that will help mark out the Tweed Valley as a top-flight visitor destination.

Although the café and bike shop will close temporarily, a mobile food unit run by the existing café will be on site and toilets will be available at the FLS gateway building.

The buzzards nest carpark is still expected to close from this date to allow for work on the Forest Lodges to commence.

Super exciting times for Glentress over the next few months with these much anticipated upgrades :-

  • Multi-User Path: This wide path will be accessible to all, including wheelchair users, and run from the Gateway Building across the hillside to connect into the existing walking trail network near the Ponds.
  • Green, Blue, Red and Black Network trails: These trails will link into the existing trail network and offer new descents ending just north of the Peel Tower. They can also be sessioned easily by a number of methods from joining the main trail network to using forest roads. The trails pass under the Multi-User Path.
  • Green, Blue, Red and Black Taster trails: These short stand-alone loops will begin and end to the south of the Peel Tower and provide a way to sample each grade before committing to a network trail. The shared climb will gradually change in difficulty from Green to Black grade as the climb goes on, before splitting at various points to separate Green, Blue, Red and Black descents. These trails do not directly link into the main trail network, but can be reached via the Multi-User Path, and can be sessioned easily. These trails also pass under the Multi-User Path.
  • Skills Loop: After the World Championships in August 2023, work will start on reducing the size of the new start/finish area and installing short skills loops of various grades to the south-west.

Over the past few months we’ve worked closely with our partners to minimise disruption and we know that this has been appreciated by those visitors who have continued to enjoy what Glentress has to offer.

Integral to creating a sustainable future for Glentress and its partners in hospitality & cycle retailing, the resurfacing will unfortunately cause some inconvenience and we would like to apologize for that in advance.

And we’d also re-assure everyone that the café and the bike shop will soon be re-opening for business.

Early feedback on the Masterplan work has been hugely positive and suggests that the anticipated boost to visitor numbers and the local economy are on-track to be realised.

While the boardwalk replacement is underway, visitors can take advantage of the additional car parking near the entrance. Temporary diversions will also be in place to help guide visitors around the site.

The boardwalk replacement will be completed in June ahead of the site being handed over to the UCI World Cup event organisers who will begin their preparations for the August start date.
