Developing Mountain Biking in Scotland (DMBinS) have today released a draft for consultation of the refresh of the Scottish Mountain Bike Strategy, 2023-2025.
The refresh will help DMBinS and all the members of the Scottish Mountain Bike Consortium (MTB Consortium) continue to progress on many exciting projects and investments already committed to mountain biking in Scotland, whilst taking cognisance of global changes, and insights and learnings over the last four years of delivery the strategy.
The refresh is a draft for consultation. DMBinS, and all members of the MTB Consortium, hope that industry and riders will feed their voice into the themes of the refresh and highlight any issues, or opportunities, that have not already been captured.
The draft for consultation can be downloaded here and all feedback should be captured using this form.
Alongside the refresh of the strategy, DMBinS has pulled together the considerable highlights that the holistic strategy has helped to achieve. The progress report includes a breakdown of projected investment of £200million into Scottish mountain biking.
Graeme McLean, Head of DMBinS, part of Scottish Cycling, said:
It is fair to say that the first four years of the strategy’s implementation have not gone as anticipated. There have been highs and lows, however I think that the progress report shows the incredible achievements across the industry, our communities and our sport on the world stage and at grassroots level.
It is important that this momentum is maintained and built upon. We had really useful workshops at the recent Scottish Mountain Bike Conference in Aberdeen which have already highlighted areas that the refresh can be improved. We hope that there will be more useful feedback from industry and riders to ensure that mountain biking is developed in a sustainable, but aspirational, manner together.
The MTB Strategy 2019-2025 is the only national strategy of its kind in the world and was launched in April 2019 to global acclaim for its vision, ambition, and integration of all those with a stake in Scottish mountain biking. Whether they be tourism businesses, product manufactures, trail builders or managers, volunteers or riders, there was a sense that the strategy captured the thoughts hopes, and dreams of a growing positive sector.
