STORM ARWEN - WEBINAR
The fragile situation in our forests continues, the task faced by land owners/managers is immense. This webinar between Forestry and Land Scotland, Trails Associations, Local Groups, and trail builders, explored the current position and discussed options for the recovery of our trail network.
Many of the trails affected by Storm Arwen were not on Forestry and Land Scotland estate and we know that trails associations and groups are keen to help support the clear-up effort. If you are looking to help in your area - please follow this guidance.
- 1
-
Approach your landowner and have a discussion about the situation. How does it look? Has an inspection or assessment been carried out?
- 2
-
If the landowner agrees, proceed to inspect/review and make a plan of action.
- 3
-
If there is significant damage, need to climb through/under trees then do not proceed. Do not take risks.
- 4
-
If there is a small level of disruption, no hanging/overhead/ dangerous trees, proceed in pairs.
- 5
-
Where there is significant chainsaw or machinery-led work required, we recommend working with the landowner. This should not be led by trails associations.
- 6
-
Where there is an opportunity to safely proceed with trail work, please do a post-work inspection and let us know if the trail is open again for riders. We will disseminate the information to the mountain bike community.
- Funding
-
Where there is a monetary requirement to support this work, please let us at DMBinS know. We endeavor to present the case to National Agencies to supplement local and regional level fundraising.
