Meet the Team - Here's Ed
What’s your role within DMBinS? Senior Project Manager – Borderlands MTB Project
Where do you live? Peebles
What does an average day look like? I try to start with a ride before work although normally just the cycle path! I work closely with local businesses, Scottish Enterprise, Scottish Borders Council, Forestry and Land Scotland and Edinburgh Napier University so I normally have calls or meetings to attend. While it looks like I ride all the time I spend a lot of time on excel and report writing to help funding claims and business cases. Once a month I now get to ride around docking the trail counters we have in the Tweed Valley which is a highlight!
Whats your favourite food? Unfortunately anything with sugar, on the upside I now have 2 gold teeth….
Favourite place to ride? I have to say exploring in the wilds of Scotland (by gravel bike) or on the many amazing Tweed Valley enduro trails. However I spent almost a decade living and working overseas and have cycled across about 60 countries, to pick a favourite is hard, probably eastern Tibet or Wakhan Valley between Tajikistan and Afghanistan were my favourite places.
What do you enjoy away from biking? Photography, gardening and splitboarding.
Self isolation challenges? I am trying to learn piano, it isn’t going well.
What’s your favourite mountain bike? Probably my 2006 Rocky Mountain Slayer, brings back great memories of living in Nelson, BC
Greatest bike achievement? I was UK 24hr MTB solo champion a few years back and I guess riding to China from the UK was a decent effort too even if they didn’t let me in at the border!
Bike kit I can’t live without? Maxxis Shorty
Little known fact? I never drank coffee before starting at DMBinS, now what does that say about DMBinS!
